Poker has always been popular, but its popularity seems to have increase after the advent of online gambling. Learn the Basic Poker Hands

To beat your opponents, you should know your poker basics. You cannot expect to understand intricate strategies, card counting and other poker techniques, if you don't understand the basic poker hands. These hands include the pair, three of a kind, full house, flush, straight, straight flush and a royal flush.

A pair hand refers to two cards of the same number or face. Accordingly, a three of a kind hand refers to three cards with the same numbers or face. Getting a full house means that you have in your hands five cards consisting of three cards of the same number or face and a couple of cards with the same number or face. A flush means that you have five cards with the same suit. When a flush is a straight flush, this means that you have a five-card hand consisting of cads in a numerical order. A royal flush is a 5-card hand consisting of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 card.

Learn the Basic Poker Rules

The game starts with the players placing their wagers. This prompts the dealer to deal the cards. At this juncture, there are games that would allow you to exchange your cards with new ones, but there are versions that disallow this. Basically, the object of the game, however, is to get a hand that is highest than everyone else's or at least higher than the dealer's hand. There are versions that would have you matching wits with other players and there are versions that only require you to play against the dealer.

Familiarize Yourself with All the Poker Versions

There are all sorts of poker versions that you can learn. Although you may never be able to become an expert on all these versions, you should at least familiarize yourself with them. You will notice that the basic poker rules stay the same. The number of decks and hand rankings varies with each version, but basically the suits remain the same.
